Smart thermostats are a new way to help homeowners save energy. Over and above ordinary programmable thermostats, they can automate savings by reducing heating and air conditioning when you're not home by offering features such as occupancy sensors and remote access from an app on your smart phone.
Participation in the Bring Your Own Thermostat (BYOT) pilot is limited, and is available on a first come first served basis. The pilot will assess these thermostats for their ability to save energy over a one-year period.
You will receive a $100 cheque following your acceptance into the pilot and an additional $25 cheque after you complete three short surveys during the pilot.
On a few hot summer weekdays, your thermostat will be slightly adjusted to reduce your air conditioner's energy consumption. This is a smart way to ease the strain on Ontario’s electricity system. If you notice that it begins to feel uncomfortably warm, you can adjust your temperature at any time.
